The main lakeside towns near Lake Garda are Sirmione, Riva del Garda, Gardone Riviera and Malcesine. The lakeside towns are well-connected by boat services. There are many ferries that link the towns with frequent services. There are even a few fast services which are slightly more expensive. If you’re thinking of spending the day visiting the gorgeous towns around the lake the best thing to do is to get an all-day ticket.
Sirmione, located on the southern shore of Lake Garda, is a very attractive and popular small town with narrow medieval streets, a thirteenth-century castle and impressive Roman ruins.
Riva del Garda is situated at the northern end of the lake and is a very touristy town, packed with souvenir shops, restaurants, bars and ice-cream shops. The town features some lovely public gardens by the waterfront and a medieval fortress.
Gardone Riva is on the western side of Lake Garda. It’s a picturesque resort with a pleasant waterfront promenade and two of the area’s main attractions, Gabriele D’Annunzio’s home and the Andre Heller Botanic Garden.
Malcesine is located on the eastern shore, and is a very charming town, probably the most picturesque of all the lakeside towns. It features historic alleys and an ancient castle behind which is an impressive mountain ridge.
