New Year festivals take place throughout the Caribbean but one of the most famous is that of Cuba, where they not only celebrate New Year’s but also the communist revolution and independence of the Island-nation. It is a massive event for all locals,  and the island is filled with music, dancing and colour!
Oranjestad, Aruba’s carnival colored capital, is located on the island’s southern coast, southeast of the main resort area. It has Dutch looking colonial architecture and some great shopping places. Outside of the shopping zone, Oranjestad becomes a livelier, rundown sprawl with lotsa local bars, mostly just holes in the wall, where one can mingle with the locals.
The most scenic island in The Bahamas is Long Island. The western shore of Cape Santa Maria, at the northern tip of the island, has a long stretch of a white-sand beach and clear blue waters. Snorkelling is fun at the reef gardens on the southern end of the cape. Scuba diving and sport fishing are the best sport near Stella Maris, the island’s main base.
